Living Above the Snake Line--Part 2

Day 1: Living Above the Snake Line
Reading: Colossians 1:9-14

Devotional: Just as there's a natural "snake line" in the wilderness above which snakes cannot survive, there's a spiritual "snake line" in our lives. God desires to elevate us above the turmoil and hardships of a life mired in sin. Today's passage reminds us that through Christ, we have been rescued from the domain of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of light. Reflect on areas of your life where you might still be living "below the snake line." How can you invite God to elevate you in those areas? Ask Him for wisdom and spiritual understanding to discern His will and live a life worthy of His calling.

Day 2: Enlightened by God's Grace
Reading: Ephesians 1:15-23

Devotional: Paul's prayer for the Ephesians echoes his desire for the Colossians - that they might have the eyes of their hearts enlightened. When we truly encounter God's grace, we gain a new perspective on life. We begin to see the difference between living in darkness and living in light. Consider how your understanding of God and His ways has grown since you first believed. What truths about God's character or promises have become clearer to you? Thank God for the spiritual enlightenment He's given you and ask Him to continue expanding your spiritual vision.

Day 3: Bearing Fruit in Every Good Work
Reading: John 15:1-17

Devotional: Living above the snake line isn't just about personal elevation; it's about bearing fruit for God's kingdom. Jesus uses the metaphor of a vine and branches to illustrate our need to remain connected to Him to bear fruit. This fruit isn't just for our benefit, but for the nourishment of others. Reflect on the "good works" God has prepared for you. Are you staying connected to the True Vine, allowing His life to flow through you? Ask God to make you fertile ground for His work, and to show you opportunities to bear fruit in your daily life.

Day 4: Increasing in the Knowledge of God
Reading: 2 Peter 1:3-11

Devotional: Peter encourages believers to make every effort to grow in their faith and knowledge of God. This growth isn't meant to be stagnant or purely intellectual - it should lead to godly living. As we increase in our knowledge of God, we should see a corresponding increase in our Christ-like qualities. Examine your life over the past year. In what ways have you grown in your knowledge of God? How has this knowledge changed your behavior or attitudes? Commit to taking one specific step to further your spiritual growth today.

Day 5: Striving to Live Differently
Reading: Romans 12:1-2

Devotional: Paul urges us not to conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Living above the snake line means living distinctly different from those who don't know Christ. Like flowers growing upward out of the dirt, we're called to rise above the muck of sin and worldly thinking. What areas of your life still conform to the world's patterns? How can you invite God to transform your thinking in these areas? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern God's will and to empower you to live it out, demonstrating to others the beauty of a life lived for Christ.
