Living Above the Snake Line

Day 1: Elevated by Grace
Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10

Devotional: Just as the sermon spoke of being "elevated above the snake line," Paul reminds us in Ephesians that we were once dead in our transgressions, living in the "swamp" of sin. But God, in His great love and mercy, raised us up with Christ. This elevation isn't something we achieved on our own - it's purely by God's grace. Today, reflect on your own journey from darkness to light. How has God lifted you out of the "swamp"? In what ways do you still struggle with the temptation to "dip your toe" back into old habits or sins? Thank God for His grace that continually elevates us, and ask for strength to live in the fullness of your new position in Christ.

Day 2: Living in the Light
Reading: Colossians 1:9-14

Devotional: Paul's prayer for the Colossians echoes the sermon's emphasis on living "above the snake line." He prays for them to have spiritual wisdom, to live lives worthy of the Lord, and to be strengthened with God's power. Most importantly, he reminds them that they've been rescued from darkness and brought into the kingdom of light. Today, consider what it means to live in the light. How can you align your choices with God's will? Pray for discernment to recognize the "glittering" temptations that might lure you back into darkness. Ask God to fill you with joy and thankfulness for the inheritance He's given you as His child.

Day 3: The Power of Choice
Reading: Joshua 24:14-15 and Proverbs 3:5-6

Devotional: The sermon emphasized how our choices control where and how we live our lives. Joshua challenged the Israelites to choose whom they would serve, while Proverbs instructs us to trust in the Lord rather than our own understanding. Living above the snake line requires daily, intentional choices to follow God. Reflect on the decisions you face today, both big and small. How can you actively choose to trust God in each of these areas? Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your decision-making process, helping you to discern between worldly wisdom and godly wisdom.

Day 4: Overcoming Discouragement
Reading: Numbers 21:4-9 and John 3:14-15

Devotional: The Israelites' story of discouragement and complaining, followed by God's provision of healing through the bronze serpent, offers a powerful lesson. Jesus later connected this event to His own crucifixion, showing how looking to Him in faith brings salvation and life. When we face discouragement or weariness in our spiritual journey, the temptation to "speak against God" or return to old ways can be strong. Instead, God calls us to look up - to fix our eyes on Jesus. Today, identify any areas of discouragement in your life. How can you shift your focus from your circumstances to Christ? Pray for renewed hope and the strength to persevere in faith.

Day 5: New Creation, New Life
Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Ephesians 2:6

Devotional: The transformative power of Christ makes us new creations and seats us with Him in heavenly places. This new identity and position are at the heart of living above the snake line. It's not just about avoiding sin, but about embracing the fullness of life in Christ. Reflect on what it means to be a "new creation." How has your life changed since coming to Christ? Are there areas where you're still living as if you're the "old creation"? Thank God for the new life He's given you, and ask Him to help you fully embrace your identity in Christ. Consider practical ways you can live out this new life today, demonstrating to others the reality of your elevated position in Christ.
